A local gun dealer is supporting law enforcement with a generous donation of tactical weapons.
Eagle Creek Firearms of Warsaw on Tuesday donated two Remington 870™ Tactical shotguns to the Akron Police Department. It was a generous act that followed another generous deed.
Akron Police Officer Justin Gearhart said he brought the department’s two shotguns to Eagle Creek Firearms to be worked on. The guns were brought to the local gunsmith because of Eagle Creek Firearms certification as a Class 3 manufacturer. “Basically, they are the ones certified to work on those guns,” said Gearhart.
Not only did Eagle Creek Firearms owner Jay Jacobs agree to donate the labor to work on those weapons, he identified a problem that needed to be resolved. “They just really needed updated (weapons),” said Jacobs, who realized the 20-year-old shotguns the department was using were not up to police standards.
Gearhart and Akron Town Marshal Tim Fleck were in Warsaw today to accept the donation, which totaled over $1,700. “Our shotguns were really but we just didn’t have it in the budget to replace them,” noted Fleck. “We’re really appreciative of everything Eagle Creek did for us.”
The two shotguns being replaced will be retired from the Akron Police Department, but what becomes of them, according to Fleck, is up to the Akron Town Council.
